Chimacum, Port Hadlock & Irondale: Homes in the Tri-Area
The Tri-Area sits in the middle of East Jefferson County, 10 to 15 minutes from Port Townsend, and it’s where a lot of everyday life happens. I’m a Chimacum grad myself.
Chimacum
Named for the Chemakum people who once lived here, Chimacum is farm country: century-old farms, cattle, hay and vegetables along the valley floor down to salmon-bearing Chimacum Creek. The Chimacum School District serves the area with elementary, middle and high schools right here in the valley. You’ll also find the Chimacum Corner Farmstand, local cideries and a growing food scene rooted in what’s grown down the road.
Port Hadlock
Port Hadlock began as a seaport on the bluff above Port Townsend Bay. Homes range from older, more affordable houses to high-end waterfront. The Northwest School of Wooden Boat Building sits near the shore by the public launch, with the Port Hadlock Marina at the head of the bay. Up the hill you’ll find a major grocery store, hardware and garden stores, restaurants, the library, post office and bus line. For many Jefferson County residents, Port Hadlock is where the errands happen.
Irondale
Founded as an iron and steel town in the late 1800s, Irondale is now a neighborhood of single- and multi-family homes minutes from both Port Hadlock and Port Townsend. Irondale Park offers beach access to Port Townsend Bay and Chimacum Creek. It’s one of the more affordable areas in the county and convenient to everything.
